HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A man who was trying to break into a home near Longs Tuesday morning was shot and wounded by the homeowner, according to a man at the scene and the homeowner's father.

One person was shot at a residence on Highway 905 near Longs Tuesday morning, said Sgt. Bernard Gate with Horry County Police. Officers responded to the residence off Hwy. 905 near Loop Circle at about 9:04 a.m. to find the shooting victim at the residence, Sgt. Grate said. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital via helicopter.

A man at the scene said that the man who was shot came to the woman’s house earlier in the morning and started banging on the door, but left when police were called. When the man returned and started banging on the door again, the homeowner shot the man, the man at the scene said. The homeowner's father also confirmed these details.

The release of more information by police is pending further investigation, Sgt. Grate added.
