HORRY COUNTY, DARLINGTON COUNTY (WMBF) – All area law enforcement agencies are reminding citizens to be careful when traveling roadways, especially during the first few weeks of school.

Conway Police Department encourages parents to talk to their children about safety, whether they are walking, riding a school bus, riding a bike, riding with friends, or driving to school.

Parents should also be aware of where their children are before and after school, according to Lt. Selena Small with the Conway Police Department.

Other tips include:

  • Allow extra travel time
  • Slow down and be patient
  • Drive defensively
  • Watch for children
  • Obey all traffic laws and traffic control officers
  • Wear seatbelt
  • Don’t use cellphone

Officers and deputies will be near school zones enforcing traffic laws, states law enforcement agencies’ press releases.
