Special election being held Tuesday to fill Surfside Beach council seat

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Three candidates are in the running for a special election being held on Tuesday, August 9, to elect a town councilmember to fill an unexpired term that ends on May 8, 2018.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and only voters registered on or before July 8, 2016 are eligible to vote.

The three candidates in this special election are: Mary Beth Mabry, Julie Samples and Wanda Spannuth. Click here to listen to a candidate forum held Sunday between the candidates.

Precinct #1 residents can vote at the at Dick M. Johnson Civic Center; Precincts #2 and #4 vote at the Surfside United Methodist Church.

If a candidate is not successful in the August 9 election, a runoff election will be held on Tuesday, August 23.
