FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - A committee from the tournament ultimately picked Florence.
The team at the Florence Civic Center said getting an event of this magnitude has been a lot of work and they've had their eyes on this event for two years.
The Florence Civic Center's General Manager Kendall Wall said now that Florence's downtown is bustling and growing our area is the perfect place to host an event of this magnitude.
"We looked at it a few years ago and we decided to wait and go after it again this year. The city and the downtown area and area around the venue have grown so much in the last couple of years and it's going to grow so much more in the next two years. We've got new hotels here breaking ground, we've got hotels breaking ground on 52. There is a new one going in downtown. All the additional restaurants are being built so Florence will look quite different here in the next couple of years, Wall said.
Florence isn't the only local town that will get all the benefits from the National Horseshoe Pitching World Tournament heading here.
Myrtle Beach and Ashville will also see some of the visitors.
That Tournament will be happening in Florence in the summer of 2018.
We're learning more about what it took to get a National Competition that will make a three point five million dollar economic impact into the Florence area.
WMBF News anchor Ken Baker is in the studio telling you more about those efforts.
"It's a huge win for Florence. We have been looking at it for several years but we needed the meeting room space. The tournament itself will be held in the arena and in the ballroom, but we needed that additional meeting space. They have luncheons and awards ceremonies and they have other things you need that for," Walls said.
