Concerned parents speak out against violence in Horry County neighborhood

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - An Horry County Police detective says Jerrell Robert Davis was arrested for shooting a woman in the neck Tuesday morning.

He was charged with Assault and Battery of a high and aggravated nature and released today after making a $5,000 bond. Several neighbors reached out to WMBF, saying they are sick of the drugs and violence plaguing their streets, and want it to stop.

All neighbors wished to remain anonymous.

"From October to January, I had eight sets of tires slashed in my yard," one resident said. "It's just...It's gotten crazy. But you have prostitutes walking around constantly. The amount of traffic that comes through there is just ridiculous."

Several neighbors spoke at length about the dangers in their streets and say the biggest problem is drugs.

"This neighborhood is no place for anybody to be that's trying to have a good life, because of the drug dealers in this neighborhood, the prostitutes in this neighborhood, the police won't do something about it, so we're going to take it to the air," a neighbor said.

Another issue, some say, is the severe lack of street lights.

"The next thing I know they're running down the street but I couldn't see anything because of the lighting. There's no lights. And I couldn't see who it was. I didn't see nobody," they said.

Horry County PD say they are aware of the dangers in that neighborhood, and they're looking into it.
