MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A man was arrested and charged following a fire at the first floor of a Myrtle Beach motel.
According to a police report, detectives with the Myrtle Beach Police Department identified Randell Norton, 46, as the offender and located him at the Fountainbleau Inn. Norton was wanted out of Texas for forgery. He was charged with third-degree arson, unlawful telephone communication, breach of trust with fraudulent intent and fugitive from justice.
The fire was in a room at the Sea Palms hotel Tuesday morning, and was contained to the room of origin, according to Lt. Jonathan Evans with the Myrtle Beach Fire Department.
The police report stated a witness saw smoke coming from the building around 7:40 a.m. and found the building to be vacant. Crews responded to the fire and it was extinguished.
