MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach Police arrested a 29-year-old woman Sunday for third-degree arson, after she allegedly set her boyfriend's clothes on fire in a bathtub at a Myrtle Beach motel after an argument over money, according to a Myrtle Beach Police report.
Police responded to the White Sands Motel at 708 North Kings Highway on Saturday night in reference to a structure fire. The officer was advised that the offender was hiding behind a dumpster at a nearby Subway, the police report states. The offender, who was later identified as 29-year-old Robyn Juanita Montgom El-Deeb, was uncooperative with the officer, and gave several false names.
One witness, who was conducting maintenance at the motel, said he almost ran into El-Deeb as she was running away from motel carrying all her belongings. When he went to El-Deeb’s room, he opened the door and was overtaken by a large amount of smoke. He then called the fire department.
Another witness said he overheard El-Deeb arguing with her boyfriend, saying he had better pay her or he would “be in big trouble,” the report states.
Police then met with the victim, El-Deeb’s boyfriend, who confirmed he had gotten into an argument with her about money, possibly for drugs, the report states. He said he went to the beach and returned 30 minutes later. He opened the door to his room and saw a large amount of smoke. He ran into the bathroom and found all of his clothes were on fire in the bathtub.
El-Deeb was arrested for third degree arson, resisting arrest, giving a false name, and second offense DUI. The report states that she had a warrant for this previous traffic offense. Police records state that no bond is set at this time. The next court date is scheduled for August 8, 2016.
