Troopers conducting investigation following NMB police chase, traffic delays expected

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating after a suspect led police on a chase in North Myrtle Beach Thursday, which resulted in two separate collisions that injured five people.

According to SCHP Cpl. Sonny Collins, the first crash happened in the area of Sea Mountain Highway and Surf Estates Way. The vehicle being pursued by the Horry County Police Department reportedly ran across the center line and struck a 2016 Chevy.

The second collision occurred after the suspect’s vehicle ran off the road and hit a parked car in the Biscuit Shack parking lot, Collins said. The restaurant was across the street from Surf Estates Way.

He added the suspect was taken to Grand Strand Medical Center, as were four occupants from the Chevy.

Two of those injured were children.

There was no update on the status of any of the victims as of 4 p.m., Friday. Specific charges against the suspect have not been filed at this time.

An SCHP crew was in the area of Sea Mountain Highway Friday afternoon on special collision assignment, according to a notice from the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety. Traffic delays were expected.
