HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The attorneys for Sidney Moorer, accused of kidnapping missing woman Heather Elvis, have requested that his upcoming kidnapping retrial be delayed from August 29, according to court documents.

The retrial was scheduled to take place in one month, after a hung jury led to a mistrial for Moorer back in June. A motion for continuance was filed on Thursday, requesting that the trial date be moved.

Kirk Truslow has also been relieved as Moorer’s private counsel, and a public defender shall be appointed to represent Moorer, according to another document filed Thursday. Truslow will continue as co-counsel on the case pro bono, or free of charge.

WMBF News has reached out to Truslow for comment on these developments.
