MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A man was arrested after unlawfully carrying a weapon and resisting an arrest near the Darlington motel located at 203 North Ocean Blvd. on Tuesday, July 26 at 12:45 p.m.

According to a MBPD police report, 41-year-old Lamar Iva Griffin who is also a convicted felon, and his wife were arguing in the parking lot and he told her that he would “shoot her.”

Officers told Griffin to get on the ground and he proceeded to slowly walk away with both hands in the air, above his head.

After refusing and not following the officers’ orders, he ducked between vehicles and ran towards Chester Street.

The two officers lost sight of Griffin and then found him behind the Atlantic Sands Hotel, the report states.

Officers then surrounded the suspect by a nearby shed and caught him.

During this exchange, a witness found a firearm near a vehicle at the original site.

A criminal history showed that Griffin was illegally in possession of the firearm.

The police report states that Griffin is now charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol, possession of firearm by a convicted felon, physically resist fight or flight, and resisting an arrest.
