HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) – The Hartsville Police Department will offer a “Shoot/Don’t Shoot” training in efforts to prepare officers in better reasoning skills when faced with stressful situations, according to the city of Hartsville media release.

The training will be held at the Tri-County Technical College in Anderson, SC on August 2 from noon to 5:00 p.m. and August 3 from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The scenarios are video simulations of officer and suspect encounters, in which an officer must make a split-second decision whether or not to discharge weapon, the media release states.

“In light of recent events, we believe that this training will add to the quality of our law enforcement’s interactions with civilians,” said Chief Thompson with the Hartsville Police Department.
