Volunteers needed for oyster restoration program in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Grand Strand residents who would like to volunteer for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resource’s oyster restoration program will have their chance on Friday.

According to information from DNR, a reef construction project will take place July 29 at Belle Isle Marina starting at 10 a.m. and running to 12:30 p.m.

The marina is located at 1228 County Road S-22-295 in Georgetown.

Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toed shoes and clothes they do not mind getting dirty. Water, gloves, sunscreen, first aid and bug spray will be provided.

New oyster reefs will be built by both volunteers and DNC staff. They will provide habitat for more than 100 marine species.
