Man wanted for murder in Lumberton shooting turns himself in

LUMBERTON, NC (WMBF) – A Lumberton man wanted for the fatal shooting of a Fairmont, NC man in Lumberton on July 17 turned himself in Wednesday, according to a news release from the Lumberton Police Department.

Brandon Devon McMillan, 29, had outstanding warrants for first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon for the shooting death of Julius Smith near Chambers Street and Crandlemire Road on Sunday.

The Lumberton Police Department responded to the area regarding gunshots at 2:00 p.m., according to a LPD report.

Officers then received a second call that a person was shot in the same area.

Upon arrival, officers found Smith lying in the roadway on Chambers Street suffering from a gunshot wound. The police report says that Smith was transported to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
