KINGSTREE, SC (WMBF) – Santee Electric Cooperative warns Pokémon Go players to stay away from all electric substations and electric equipment.

The mobile-game app, Pokémon Go are leading players into dangerous situations, such as electric utilities, according to Adrel S. Langley, Manager of Community Relations for Santee Electric Cooperative Inc.

“Electric utilities cannot control where the Pokémon ...appear, and players should make sure they catch their Pokémon from a safe distance,” said Langley.

Santee Electric Cooper also provided electrical safety tips for Pokémon Go players:

• Never touch electric equipment, including transformers and power lines

• Never touch a downed power line. Assume all lines are energized and dangerous

• Never climb utility poles

• Never enter an electric substation
