HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A 24-year-old North Carolina woman has been arrested and charged with murder after her 6-week-old son drowned in a pond near Tanger Outlets on Highway 501 Saturday.

Bond was denied for Jameisha Ka'Tara Alexander, of Carrboro, N.C., on Tuesday afternoon.

"I am extremely sorry for what happened," Alexander said through tears at the bond hearing.

Alexander was seen near the pond behind Tanger Outlets holding her son, King Khalil Jair Alexander, on Saturday, July 16, according to her arrest warrant and the coroner’s office.

Security immediately responded and found King in the pond, and Jameisha Alexander was nowhere to be found, the arrest warrant states. The security guard found King lying face-down in the pond water on top of PVC drainage pipes, according to the incident report. The guard went to the water, recovered King, and actively gave him CPR until Horry County Fire Rescue arrived. Efforts to save the infant were in vain, and the cause of King’s death was determined to be drowning, the warrant states.

Police taped off the crime scene and officers saturated the area on foot and in vehicles in an attempt to locate Jameisha Alexander, but were unable to find her, the incident report states.

Alexander was found after she wrecked her vehicle almost two hours later, the warrants states. She was found in the area of Highway 501 and Bill Jones Road near Aynor, according to the incident report. During that time, she made no effort to contact authorities or anyone else for help. By doing so, Horry County Police say she committed murder, according to the warrant.
