GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) — The Pokemon Go phenomenon is coming to the Grand Strand.
According to a press release, Georgetown County Parks and Recreation will host its first Pokemon Go event at Beck Recreation Center on Thursday, July 21. It begins at 6 p.m., and all players are welcome to participate.
To attract as many of the virtual characters as possible, county staff will set virtual lures, which is called “Incense” in the game from 6 to 7 p.m.
The release stated incense helps to draw more wild Pokemon to a person’s location in the game, which uses GPS tracking to pinpoint player location and movement.
Players are encouraged to take screen shots of their catches and share them on social media with the tag #gtcounty.
If the Pokemon hunt on Thursday is successful, other Pokemon Go events and competitions may be scheduled at recreation facilities throughout the county.
This event is one of many being sponsored by Georgetown County Parks and Recreation this month in celebration of National Parks and Recreation Month, which takes place annually in July. For more information about parks and facilities in Georgetown County, click here.
For those not familiar with it, the Waccamaw Library in Litchfield will host a Pokemon Go gathering on Saturday, July 23, at 11 a.m., for the public to learn about the game and start playing.
