CLEVELAND, OH (WMBF) – The Republican National Convention is officially underway in Cleveland and many South Carolina representatives made it a point to be there.

Just moments after everyone was gaveled in on Monday, WMBF News caught up with Rep. Alan Clemmons, who wanted voters to know they are represented in full at the convention.

“We have a full delegation from South Carolina here, along with a multitude of alternates and guests,” Clemmons said.

He added South Carolina's showing at the RNC is a presence he believed is paramount.

“Well, it's important for our state to be invested and play a part in not only determining the very important process of who the nominee of the Republican Party will be coming into our general election in November, but also in the setting of national policy in regard to the Republican platform,” Clemmons said.

Clemmons believed this will be a turning point for the Republican Party, while also an opportunity to get behind presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump's policy plans.

“I foresee a galvanizing of the Republican Party," he said. "I believe that once folks become more aware of Donald Trump and his stance with regard to America and with regard to our allies, with regard to rebuilding our military and making us a strong, prosperous country once again. I think you'll see a galvanizing of Republicans behind Donald Trump,” he said.

Clemmons went on to say the RNC is not one-sided.

“It’s a process on both sides, on the candidate's side and on the grass roots of the Republican Party," he said. "This is where all that comes together, this is where America starts transforming the primary that is behind us, to the general election where Republicans come together to elect our nominee.”
