Lumberton Police Department respond to shooting incident

LUMBERTON, NC (WMBF) – The Lumberton Police Department responded to Chambers Street and Crandlemire Road regarding gunshots on Sunday, June 17 at 2:00 p.m., according to a LPD report.

Officers then received a second call that a person was shot in the same area.

Upon arrival, officers found Julius Smith of Fairmont, NC, lying in the roadway on Chambers Street suffering from a gunshot wound.

The police report says that Smith was transported to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

This investigation in ongoing and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations is assisting with this incident.
