HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – An Horry County man has lost 30 pounds in the past nine months and shrunk his waist by six inches.

Now, he’s fighting for much more than just his health.

Conway native Kevin Cox is going for the Men’s Health Ultimate Guy competition, with the winner appearing on the cover of the November 2016 edition of “Men’s Health” magazine.

Out of 700 hopefuls across North America, he is currently sitting in seventh place.

Speaking to WMBF News, Cox said his wife works out with him at their gym and also inspired him to enter the competition.

“This is the third year of the competition and I thought, ‘I’d like to enter,’” he said. “So I talked to her about it, she said, ‘Why would you not enter it?’ So, timing was right, so I entered and here we are at No. 7.”

The voting will continue through Sunday. Individuals can vote once per day.
