MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The officer involved in the shooting at the Myrtle Beach State Park on June 24 has been identified as Horry County Police officer Chandler J. Mullinax.

The officer-involved shooting occurred at the Myrtle Beach State Park at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24.

Mullinax was dispatched to the Myrtle Beach State Park after dispatch provided information that a man was seen with a rifle and was sitting in a parking area in a white vehicle, according to the incident report. Once Mullinax arrived, the man was confronted and questioned, according to information from Lt. Raul Denis.

During this encounter, Mullinax discharged his weapon, Lt. Denis said at the time of the incident. Details on what exactly happened were redacted from the incident report. Police assisted bystanders with providing first aid, the incident report states. The man was then transported to a local hospital.

Mullinax has been with HCPD since March 2016, and has been a South Carolina police officer since June 2012, according to information released Friday by the department.

“He is in good standing with our Department and he has been reassigned to administrative duties pending the results of SLED’s investigation into the shooting,” Denis stated. The investigation into the incident is on-going.
