Darlington community remembers teen who died after being pulled from ocean in Myrtle Beach

DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) – Funeral services were held Wednesday for a Darlington teen who died last week after being pulled from the ocean in Myrtle Beach.

According to information from Hines Funeral Home, a service was held at Darlington High School to remember 17-year-old Mikease McFarland, who was a member of the school’s band.

Burial followed at the Darlington Memory Gardens.

McFarland was one of two distressed swimmers pulled from the water in the area of 43rd Avenue North in Myrtle Beach on July 6.

The second swimmer, a female, was treated on the scene.

A third distressed swimmer, McFarland’s 12-year-old brother Miyon, has not yet been found. A memorial service was also held for him on Wednesday.
