HCS’ Class of 2016 earns $63.5 million in scholarships

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The class of 2016 in Horry County School District earned $63.5 worth of scholarships in total for meeting the eligibility requirements by the South Carolina Education Lottery, according to Teal Britton with Horry County Schools.

Among the 10 high schools, 40 percent plan to attend a four-year college or university and 38 percent plan to attend college.

Ten percent of the graduates earned an HCS Honors Diploma. They received this diploma by meeting all the basic requirements to graduate, a 4.0 or higher, and a composite SAT score of 1000 or higher in reading and math or a composite ACT score of 22 or higher.

Below is a summary total of scholarships earned:

Aynor High School: $3,800,000

Carolina Forest High School: $8,064,400

Conway High School: $2,821,962

HCS Early College High School: $2,772,264

Green Sea Floyds High School: $847,300

Loris High School: $3,001,639

Myrtle Beach High School: $6,439,991

North Myrtle Beach High School: $8,213,690

St. James High School: $10,159,917

Socastee High School: $17,382,190

    Dozens of flights in and out of MYR were canceled and delayed Wednesday due to the winter storm. A lot of the problems stemmed from snow at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. It was a frustrating day for a lot of flyers.
