GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A house fire Monday in Georgetown County kept the South Causeway closed for a portion of the afternoon.

According to Midway Fire Rescue Chief Doug Eggiman, a call for the fire at 431 South Causeway came in at 1:15 p.m.

The residents of the single-family residence were not home at the time of the fire, Eggiman said.

Firefighters rescued a dog from inside the home, he added. The animal was unresponsive, but was resuscitated and taken to a local veterinarian for smoke inhalation.

Mutual aid was provided by firefighters with the city of Georgetown, Horry County Fire Rescue, Surfside Fire and Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire.

The South Causeway was still closed at 3:15 p.m., but Eggiman anticipated it would be open soon. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
