FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - As many have fought to stay cool, it is important to remember those who have jobs out in all types of weather elements like the weather across the Pee Dee as of late.

“If we have large incidents such as a structure fire, if we have EMS on standby they will periodically check the firefighters to make sure they are not suffering from heatstroke or overexerted,” said Capt. Anthony Fox with the West Florence Fire Department.

The WFFD said during sweltering days crews make sure they are doing the right things to make sure they do not fall sick from heat illness.

Those West Florence firefighters aren’t the only men and women whose jobs cause them to work outside the comfort of shade and air conditioning.

For construction workers, mail and package carriers, and the rest, a few tips were offered by staff.

“Make sure you dress appropriately. Wear light clothing, make sure you are hydrated,” Fox said. “Evaluate your co-workers, make sure your co-workers are not suffering from heat stroke or overexertion.”
