MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - So far this year, WMBF News has reported on 13 incidents involving drownings, possible drownings, or missing swimmers who were not recovered at oceans, lakes, and rivers in our local area.

The most recent incident occurred on Wednesday, July 6, when a 12-year-old from Darlington went missing while swimming in the area of 42nd Avenue North in Myrtle Beach.

In reaction to the number of incidents, Myrtle Beach Water Rescue began water safety classes for kids that specifically focus on how to swim out of a rip current. View our report on this here, which includes tips on staying safe in the water.
