ANDREWS, SC (WMBF) – An owner of a dog whose genitals were mutilated on June 9 says he is doing okay, and a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible.

On June 9, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Winterberry Drive in Andrews, according to an incident report. The dog’s other owner said when he got home on June 9, his yellow Labrador retriever, Major Payne, was bleeding from his genital area. He saw that the dog’s penis had been cut off.

A doctor came to the house, and said that it appeared someone had completely cut the dog's penis off. She also noticed several other cuts around the genital area. Mayor Payne was taken to a veterinarian in Mt. Pleasant for surgery.

The owner told deputies that sometimes the dog jumps the fence , and that someone had to have injured him while he was roaming around the neighborhood.

Elizabeth Byrdic, Major Payne’s other owner, has been updating her Facebook page with the dog’s status since the incident occurred. She said in a phone interview that Mayor Payne is going okay, thanks to the efforts of a Mt. Pleasant animal hospital. He has adapted to going to the bathroom after his injury.

Her page includes a poster offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the attack.

The page also includes a graphic image of Major Payne after surgery for the injury. It can be seen here - WARNING: Graphic image.

Anyone with information can contact the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office at (843) 546-5102.
