MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina University graduate and Myrtle Beach native Amber Campbell placed first in the hammer toss trials and will be heading to the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Campbell won the trials Wednesday with a career-best throw of 74.03 meters. Her previous high was 73.61 meters back in 2014, a mark she tied back in April of this year.
A three-time national champion and six-time indoor champion, Campbell was an Olympian in 2008 and 2012. For the latter, she finished 13th, the best ever by an American in the event.
Campbell graduated from CCU in 2004 and was just elected into the Big South Hall of Fame.
