Former Horry County interim police chief sworn in to lead Georgetown department

GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) – The former interim chief for the Horry County Police Department was officially sworn in to serve in the same capacity at the Georgetown Police Department.

According to a post on the GPD’s Facebook page Wednesday, Kelvin Waites took the oath of office at 12 p.m., Wednesday to serve as the department’s interim police chief.

The oath was administered by Judge Robert O’Donnell, according to the GPD.

Waites, who lives in Georgetown, had served as Horry County’s interim chief since May 6, when Saundra Rhodes, the former police chief, resigned.

His last day with the HCPD was July 1.
