Florence man accused of taking $1.2m for cell phone purchases, never delivering

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A Florence man was arrested last month and is accused of defrauding victims of about $1.2 million by taking money for cell phone purchases, but never delivering them, according to an FBI News release.

Edward Lawrence Johnson, II was arrested on June 29 on the charge of wire fraud, the release states.

According to the criminal complaint filed in the Florence District Court, from 2007, Johnson used his name, various aliases, and various company names to market cell phone for purchase. After the purchase funds were provided to Johnson, the phones were never delivered, nor were refunds made. The victims suffered losses of about $1,200,000.

According to the FBI release:

Company names used by Johnson included No Doubt Records; Trivo Wireless, LLC; RBC Communications, Inc.; Avista Entertainment; SBC Communications; Kore, Inc.; Blue Communications; Movia Wireless, Inc.; Asset/Vada Wireless; West Records; Avista Records; Once Communications, LLC; One World Corp (a COM3K, Inc. company); Vertex Communications;  TCI Communications, LLC; West Communications; TCI Wireless; West Music; One Holdings; and Phat Boy Entertainment.

Anyone who believes they may have been defrauded by Johnson should call the FBI at 843-629-3022.
