Democrat Phillips wins Horry County Council District 7 seat in special election

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Democrat Harold Phillips has won the special general election for the Horry County Council District 7, according to the county’s unofficial election results. The seat was left open when James Frazier resigned from office back in January.

Polls closed at 7 p.m. in Horry County, and Phillips received 57.57 percent support from voters with 924 votes, with 100 percent of precincts reporting, according to the County Election Commission’s unofficial results. Republican Robert Shelley received 681 votes, 42.43 percent.

A total of 1,622 votes were cast in 23 precincts, out of 16,422 total registered voters, equaling a voter turnout of 9.88 percent

The special primary election to decide the two candidates in the general election was held on May 17, 2016.

The next scheduled election to take place in Horry County is the Presidential Election in November, according to the election commission.
