Boardwalk businesses report mixed experiences July 4 weekend

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Lines of customers went out the door at Boardwalk Coffee House during July 4 weekend.

"It's been a great weekend. We're selling lots of cold drinks with the extra heat and everything," said Deann Sarver, owner of Boardwalk Coffee House.

However, Blue Smoke Vape Shop said the holiday weekend hasn't been as strong as in years past.

"Last year, you couldn't even walk on the streets it was so packed with so many people," said Caleb Varas, manager at Blue Smoke Vape Shop. "Now it looks like any other Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday."

Varas said people are no longer spending as much money at one time.

"You could get large sales from people," he said. "They had money to spend. They wanted to spend it with you. The attitudes are a lot different as well."

Peaches Corner Manager Robert Alston said Friday and Saturday started off a little slow and got busier after dark because people were traveling into town.

He said the stream of customers stayed steady the rest of the weekend.

"It's been busy yesterday, so we're doing pretty good," Alston said.

Alston said he thinks the summer has been strong so far.

Varas said he's looking forward to next season.

"I'm already looking forward to it because this one's kind of dead," Varas said.
