OMAHA, NE (WMBF) - While the players for the Coastal Carolina baseball team take center stage in college baseball's championship series, the Twitter account following all of the success is seeing its own profile grow.
Before the team left for Omaha, @CoastalBaseball had fewer than nine thousand followers. It now has more than the athletic department's account @GoCCUSports.
Alex Souza runs the account, creating original content to show off the players. WMBF News interviewed him Tuesday morning, on Twitter.
Souza says the attention started to come during the Super Regionals in Baton Rouge.
From big time sports fan accounts, to Hollywood stars, @CoastalBaseball is taking on a life of its own.
It was hard for Souza to pick a favorite Tweet, but he says there was one that really shows just how much support the team is getting from back home. It was sent out just before last night's first championship series game.
Souza shared statistics for the Twitter account, that show impressions are up more than 600% since the Big South Tournament. @CoastalBaseball has been mentioned more than 9,000 times in that time frame, and the accounts following has nearly doubled.
As for tonight's game two...
