Coastal Carolina wins in College World Series debut

CCU discusses playing in the CWS

OMAHA, NE (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina baseball is moving on to the winner's bracket in the College World Series after beating top-ranked Florida by a 2-1 final on Sunday night at TD Ameritrade Park in Nebraska. It's the first win in the first CWS appearance for the Chants.

Andrew Beckwith threw a complete game for CCU, and allowed seven hits and one earned run while striking out seven batters.

Zach Remillard powered the offense, by driving in both runs for the Chants. His double in the 3rd inning was overturned by replay review after previously being called foul. The hit brought in Anthony Marks. Remillard followed that up with a triple in the 6th inning after Florida had tied the game. Connor Owings scored the go-ahead run on the hit.

The win is Coastal's 50th of the season.

The Chants are off on Monday, and will face TCU in the winner's bracket on Tuesday night at 9:00 EST. Florida will play Texas Tech on Tuesday at 5:00 EST.
