HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Jan. 2016 marked 30 years since Alex Pino of Conway was murdered. And all these years later, family and friends will still gather to remember what would have been his birthday.

Although the family has been left without answers, they held a memorial gathering to remember what would have been his 51st birthday.

“Our mother passed away Feb. 6, and I made a promise to her that I would continue fighting, for her and our family,” Jennifer Pino said.

The case was closed unless there was new information that came to light, but just a few days before their mother passed, Jennifer got to tell her mother that she got the case reopened.

“And the joy that she had on her face was marvelous, it’s something that you’ll never forget,” Pino said.

In 1986, Alex Pino was 21 years old when he was stabbed to death in a Conway home and still today no one is in jail for the crime.

Although the family says the open case still preys on their minds, the family will never shy away of honoring their loved one.

“We're still celebrating his life, not the death of him, his life,” Pino said.

Family and friends said Pino was joyful, and he would have done anything for anyone, no matter who it was.

“We’re celebrating an individual that’s touched a lot of people,” Pino said.

Their anger decades ago is now just sadness.

While the family is still craving answers, they said if they could ever meet the person who committed the crime, the only thing they would want to say is that they forgive him.

“No matter what, we're happy because I know my brother and mother is looking down on us saying were still fighting,” Pino said.

If you have information, or know someone who might have a tip regarding this case, call the Conway Police Department immediately.
