NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The new Shark Wake Park is a cable water sports park where people can wakeboard and it’s right here in South Carolina. From beginners to pros, anyone can try wakeboarding.

The best way to look at this park is to think of a snowboard mountain; you can wakeboard, water ski or kneeboard, all without a boat.

"This is for everyone. It’s not for the professional wakeboard rider or water skier; it's the best way to get into water sports, and once you get into it, you’re going to be hooked,” Shark Wake Park Owner Greg Norman Jr. said.

This is the first water sports park of its kind in our area with seven ramps to ride - and even a smaller, simpler, two-tower cable system where beginners can get comfortable.

The park is easy enough for any beginner to get around yet advanced enough for pro riders to do some high tricks.

“This is an extremely action-packed type sport, and it's new. It’s nothing in the area like it and it gives us just one more attraction for our tourists and our residents,” North Myrtle Beach Mayor Marilyn Hatley said.

But Norman wasn't the only one to put his knowledge to the test. He brought along Jeff Teruda and Adam Errington, two of his friends from Florida who are also professionals in the wakeboarding game.

“They are without a doubt the most experienced guys around the cable park on the planet,” Norman said.

Norman said all three will either ride alongside other riders, give lessons, or simply give their expertise.

“It’s a truly special thing what the three of us have going on, we’ve all been in this industry for so long. Not only is it a dream to have our own park like this, but it's also a real special feeling to teach people and pass on our knowledge,” Errington said.

The team is not only excited to have their dream come true, but to get more people involved in this growing sport and ultimately give locals and visitors an opportunity to enjoy the wake-culture experience.

“It may look intimidating, but the system allows for the safest, most effective way to learn the sport. So if you come out here for the first time, you’re going to have the most experienced operator, the most experienced coaches to get you up and riding right off the bat,” Norman said.

In addition to the cables, the park will also include:

  • Shark Shack for food, refreshments, beer and wine
  • Pro Shop
  • Ronix wake gear featuring a “Try It Before You Buy It” program
  • Wakesurf school (coming soon)
  • Aqua Park (opening 2017)
