MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A female pedestrian was crossing Highway 17 Bypass near Pine Island Road when she was struck and killed by a car in the northbound lanes of the highway, the Horry County Coroner confirmed.
The incident occurred at about 8:45 p.m., according to Coroner Robert Edge. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.
The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of the family, Coroner Edge said.
This accident blocked the northbound lanes on Highway 17 Bypass near Pine Island Road. A WMBF News employee in the area said traffic was being diverted to Harrelson Boulevard.
Earlier in the day Thursday, a traffic accident in the northbound lanes of Highway 17 Bypass in the same area closed all lanes and backed up traffic.
