MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - This Father's Day, children can really 'wow' dad with a gift he can truly appreciate.

The tech experts at Best Buy in Myrtle Beach showed off the latest gadgets that will impress dad on Sunday.

C.J. Vititoe, with Best Buy, said this year it is all about the gadgets that keeps dad connected to his family. He added Nest products make great gifts that keep fathers connected to home.

The Nest security camera retails for $179, but this week for Father's Day, consumers can save $50.

"This particular camera is 1080p, but it is a plug-and-play, so not only are we able to use this for a baby monitor because it has a microphone and a speaker built in, it's got a remote app feature, and grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, they can all download the app on their phone and see what's going on in the nursery as well," Vititoe said.

In addition to the camera, dad might appreciate the Nest smoke detector that retails for $100.

"Particularly with Nest, you get smartphone notifications if anything is happening," Vititoe said. "I didn’t realize we save 15 percent on our homeowners' insurance because Nest is part of the National Safety Committee."

The Nest Thermostat is a pricier gift but definitely on the, "cool list."

"You can control everything from your phone as you come and go from the house," Vititoe said. "It starts to learn the temperatures that you like and if no one is home it will reduce on your energy savings."

Any dad with a smartphone will enjoy a smart watch. Vititoe said fathers can choose from a wide range of smart wrist technology that is stylish and reasonable, with prices starting at $100.

This smart technology will not just tell time, but also help dad stay on track with day-to-day fitness goals and allow him to receive email and text message notifications on the wrist rather than the phone.

"With just a flick of the wrist you are able to see that notification and preserve the battery life," Vititoe said.

He added that his favorite connected home device is the 'My Q Garage Door Opener,' which allows dad to operate the system from his phone. Only a wireless internet connection is needed.
