LUMBERTON, NC (WMBF) - The Lumberton City Council passed an ordinance at Monday night’s council meeting regarding certain dog breeds which are labeled “vicious,” such as pit bulls.

According to Lumberton City Councilmember Burnis Wilkins, people who have those dogs can keep them, they just have to take some extra steps.

Those steps include housing regulations, leash requirements, microchips and liability insurance, Wilkins said.

The measure passed on a 5-to-3 vote.

Earlier this year, a 7-year-old was killed in a pit bull attack in Lumberton.
