Coroner identifies teen swimmer found dead in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The body of a teenage swimmer who reportedly went underwater near the 14th Avenue Pier in downtown Myrtle Beach on Saturday has been found.

Dorrion Smith, 15, from Durham, North Carolina was recovered Monday at about 5:30 p.m. near 49th Avenue North, according to Horry County Coroner Robert Edge.

According to a Myrtle Beach Police Department incident report, the victim was last seen 50 yards from shore.

    Traffic congestion is being reported on several spots along Highway 17 and Highway 17 Bypass from Surfside Beach to Georgetown as the total solar eclipse draws nearer. An alert from the South Carolina Department of Transportation states that US 17 southbound between the Garden City Connector and Indigo Club Drive is down to an average speed of just 7 miles per hour, for a length of about 9 miles.
