49-minute vigil Monday night honored the 49 Orlando shooting victims

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A vigil in Myrtle Beach Monday night honored the lives lost in the Orlando shooting at the Pulse nightclub.

All were welcome to attend.

Takeover Grand Strand, a group dedicated to bringing the LGBT community together, organized the vigil at the Hilton Garden Inn at Coastal Grand Mall to remember and honor the victims and families of Sunday's shooting in Orlando, Fla. The event lasted 49 minutes, one minute for each life lost. The theme for the evening was "Love Conquers All."

The seats filled up and the vigil became standing-room only. Anybody who wanted to speak was allowed, in an effort to help everyone reach some healing together. Speakers were asked to refrain from talking about politics and keep the focus on love conquers hate.

Myrtle Beach police stood guard at the vigil.

"I wasn't aware of anyone that I knew there, but still it just completely tore me apart," said Terry Livingston, who spoke at the vigil.
