Hartsville man kept $300,000 lottery ticket a secret

COLUMBIA, SC (WMBF) – A Hartsville man recently purchased a $300,000 ticket at Atkinson 165 on W. Lucas St. in Florence and kept it a secret for two weeks, according to lottery officials.

"I never expected to win," said the winner.

He purchased the South Carolina Education Lottery ticket on his lunch break and worked the rest of the day with the ticket sitting in his car, before realizing the ticket's worth of $300,000.

The mystery man used his prize money to pay off his house, according to officials.

The $300,000 top prize still remains in the $10 Mighty Jumbo Bucks, game number 790, that went on sale Oct. 12. Officials said the odds of winning $300,000 are 1 in 750,000.

Atkinson 165 in Florence received a commission of $3,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
