AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - A man who ran over and killed two workers on the side of a state highway in South Carolina and did not stop has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. Thirty-year-old Lonnie Miller pleaded guilty Friday in Aiken County to two counts of hit-and-run involving death. Authorities say state Department of Transportation workers 54-year-old Tony Redmond and 64-year-old Robert Clark were inspecting a ditch on state Highway 421 near Interstate 520 when they were struck and killed.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A prosecutor wants a judge to throw out a sentence of probation against a South Carolina lawmaker, saying her unwillingness to listen to his legal arguments left him worried the judge's "impartiality has been undermined." Prosecutor David Pascoe also said in court papers that Circuit Judge Carmen Mullen didn't follow the legal rules Monday when she said she refused to consider all the details Pascoe presented about former state Rep. Rick Quinn Jr.
BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a South Carolina woman who was apparently killed by her boyfriend three months ago wasn't reported missing until about a week ago. Bennettsville Police Chief Kevin Miller says once 40-year-old Shelby Head's estranged husband reported her missing, the case was quickly solved. Authorities found Head's body Thursday in a ditch covered with trees. A cause of death was not given. Head's boyfriend Raymond Nolan is charged with murder.
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - An African-American pastor closely linked to President Donald Trump says he is running for U.S. House as a Republican in South Carolina. Mark Burns released a video Friday saying he wants the seat left open as Republican U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy leaves Congress at the end of the year. In the video, Burns touts his service on Trump's Faith Advisory Council. It also shows his speech to the 2016 Republican Convention where he said under Trump "all lives matter."
