WOODRUFF, S.C. (AP) - State police are investigating after an off-duty South Carolina sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a suspect who pulled a gun. The Spartanburg County sheriff said an off-duty Laurens County officer had stopped to help Woodruff police with a stolen pickup truck. The deputy fired after he was unable to stun the suspect who ran away and then pulled a gun. The suspect's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. The officer was not hurt.
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A man has been killed and another was hurt after being shot near a strip club in South Carolina. The Greenville County Coroner's Office said the shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. The dead man's name has not been released. The other man was taken to a hospital for treatment. There was no word on his name or condition. No arrests have been reported.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A Georgia man has been found not guilty in the shooting death of a South Carolina woman more than three years ago. Twenty-eight-year-old James Torrez Wright of Savannah, Georgia, was cleared late last week in the 2015 home invasion shooting death of 24-year-old Latorria Heyward at a mobile home park in Ravenel.
LANCASTER, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say deputies backed by a canine unit and a helicopter have chased down a South Carolina man suspected of kidnapping a baby, eventually finding him eating at a fast food restaurant. His clothes were bloody after crashing a pickup truck, according to authorities. But they say the baby was ultimately found safe and unharmed.
