The National Weather Service has flood warnings in effect in 15 counties in central and eastern North Carolina. Problems are reported in Goldsboro, Greenville, Kinston, Lumberton, Rocky Mount, Smithfield and Tarboro,

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - A Winston-Salem woman has been convicted of forcing a 12-year-old girl into prostitution over a 2-year period. The Winston-Salem Journal reports that a Forsyth County jury on Thursday found 39-year-old Flora Riano Gonzalez guilty of sexual servitude, felony child abuse involving prostitution and felony child abuse involving sex acts.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A driver who runs into a demonstrator on a public street in North Carolina could avoid civil liability for the person's injuries under legislation clearing the House. Representatives gave final approval to the measure Thursday following a second straight day of debate over protecting motorists legally using the roads and the constitutional right to protest. The bill now heads to the Senate.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Judges are hearing whether North Carolina's Republican lawmakers are acting constitutionally as they again seek to neuter the new Democratic governor's oversight of state and local elections. Lawyers for Gov. Roy Cooper and legislative leaders are due back in court Friday.
