WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A pit bull who was at the center of a social media controversy in Georgetown County after photos of the animal were posted to Facebook with its ears mutilated has been found in Andrews.

Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Investigator Alex Edwards confirmed the dog was located Wednesday afternoon at a home in the 1000 block of Seaboard Road. It was being taken to a local vet’s office in Kingstree for evaluation.

Edwards added the dog did not appear to have any severe medical issues beyond the cut ears.

A number of viewers reached out to WMBF News about the photos of the dog, which began circulating on social media on Sunday.

Many were upset over the post since it showed the animal with its ears cut, mangled and bloody, with a caption reading, "I just cut them."

The ensuing comments included several threats, shaming the act and calling it animal abuse.

Edwards said no arrests have been made at this time, but criminal charges will be looked into after the dog has been evaluated.

The case is being handled by Williamsburg County Environmental Services, with assistance from the WCSO.
