Raleigh Regional Update: CCU falls to NC State, final game delayed

RALEIGH, NC (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina fell to North Carolina State in the NCAA Baseball Raleigh Regional by an 8-1 final on Monday afternoon. The loss is the first for the Chants in the regional, and forces a winner-take-all game between the two to be played later Monday.

Zach Hopeck threw three and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on four hits. Offensively, the Wolfpack were powered by Brock Deatherage who knocked a two-run home run and Evan Mendoza, who drove in three runs.

The Wolfpack threw Ryan Williamson, who is scheduled to have Tommy John surgery this summer, and he lasted one inning before Will Gilbert took over. He went the remaining eight innings, allowing just one run on a G.K. Young home run.

The final game of the regional has been delayed due to weather. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 from Doak Field. The winner of the game advances to Super Regionals next weekend.
