MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A number of arrests have been made following reports of gunshots in the 100 block of North Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.

According to Myrtle Beach Police Lt. Joey Crosby, officers responded just before 9 p.m. When they arrived, they reportedly found two large groups of people engaged in a fight.

During the incident, one person reportedly produced a weapon and fired shots into the air, according to Crosby.

The access is in between two beach resorts. Many tourists and visitors say they witnessed the incident, and thought they were hearing firecrackers.

"And there was just groups of people running. Then the cops showed up and they were here for a very very long time." said Jessica Schrout.

"Everyone was pretty much just like 'What is going on?', but then everyone just kept running in and outside. I think they said we see on lock down but I'm not entirely sure."

Crosby said the crowds were not from the Myrtle Beach area.

A security guard in scene says the gunman fled the scene after firing the gun, and returned later after he thought police were gone. He was arrested along with several others. Police say none of those involved were from the Myrtle Beach area.

"Man, that really hurt my heart because this is supposed to be a place that you can really enjoy yourself and have fun with the kids and everything, you know? You don't expect nothing like this to happen." said Carl Barnes, who was visiting with his family.

No injuries were reported and no further information was immediately available.
