DILLON, SC (WMBF) – One man was shot, flagged down police and taken to a local hospital where he later died, officials said.
According to Captain David Lane, Taquawn Manning has been arrested and charged with murder.
The shooting happened on North 11th Avenue in Dillon, according to Dillon police. At around 1 a.m., police got a call of a gunshot fired and saw a man running on Main Street. He flagged officers down and said he had been shot, according to Captain Lane. He fell to the ground and was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from one gunshot wound.
Captain Lane said the victim was visiting a friend on 11th Ave., and did not live there.
Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley said the victim was identified as Alfred Lamont White, 33, of Dillon. He added that autopsy results will be released at a later time.
For long-time friend Tiffany Johnson, news of White's death, "was shocking."
"He's very well known around the neighborhood," she said. "He's a nice guy. I've never heard anything about him bad."
Investigators said White waved officers down for help and then crossed Main Street before falling to the ground outside the Farm and Feed store.
"It's just sad for someone to just take someone else's life," Johnson said. "Take somebody away from their kids, their family, their mother, their father. It's hard; I've been through it with my brother. I know how the family is feeling and it's not a good feeling. I don't wish that on anybody."
Police said this is an open investigation and authorities are still looking into this case.
