FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A Thursday evening house fire in Florence was caused by a lightning strike.

According to Capt. Anthony Fox with the West Florence Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to a home on Texas Drive at 8:33 p.m., after a call came in about the fire, along with reports of an explosion inside the residence.

The single-story residence had smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure and the roof. West Florence crews were able to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes, according to Fox. None of the residents at home were injured, he added. The family hamster was also unharmed.
