Litchfield Country Club to celebrate its 50th year

Pawley's Island SC (WMBF) - With a touch of American history and south Strand history as well, Litchfield Country Club has become a player favorite for 50 years.

While the Old Kings Highway that George Washington traveled on in 1791 can't be seen today it ran along the course that opened back in 1966.

Two South Carolinian's came up with the idea for the course and a father and son duo from Darlington built it.

One of eight original courses in the grand strand, Litchfield Country Club was the first on Pawley’s Island.

A reason for players coming back year after year is the southern charm the course provides.

“Also because of the live oak and Spanish moss and all of the beauty and natural beauty that's here. It kind of speaks a southern language and that kind of can't be replicated anymore. I think that's one of the charms that people see here and a reason a lot of people like to come back,” General Manager Christa Bodensteiner said.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary Litchfield is holding a golf tournament for members of the media and package providers.

Along with golf, the Country club offers Sunday brunch and a venue for weddings.
